PriMed 2025 : THE 29TH EDITION PRESENTED

The press conference for the 29th edition of PriMed – the Mediterranean Film Festival – was held this Tuesday, September 28th, at the Regional Council building in Marseille. Organized by the Mediterranean Center for Audiovisual Communication (CMCA) with the support of the South Region, the festival will take place from November 29th to December 6th, 2025, in several iconic locations throughout the city.

This edition promises to be particularly rich and socially engaged: 548 films submitted from 50 countries, resulting in 25 selected works representing 15 Mediterranean nations, including 7 French premieres and 16 films directed or co-directed by women. These figures confirm the vitality of documentary filmmaking.taire méditerranéen et l’ouverture croissante du PriMed aux nouveaux regards.

The 2025 poster, designed by Pauline Labarthe, depicts a seagull dressed as a dove—a symbol of peace and a nod to Marseille—as an invitation to see the Mediterranean in a new light: fragile, beset by crises, but always a beacon of hope.

Among the major themes of this edition are the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, civic and environmental struggles, youth in search of a future, and the memory of past conflicts. See here the official selection

True to its commitment, PriMed also places young people at the heart of its program. With the Mediterranean Youth Prize, more than 3,000 high school students from both shores of the Mediterranean debate and vote for their favorite film. The “Me, a Mediterranean citizen” competition, organized with TV5MONDE, also invites students to make their own short film on the theme “Leaving, travelling, getting lost here or elsewhere?”.

Chaired this year by Daphné Rozat, head of documentary programming at the Geneva International Film Festival, the jury will award several prizes: the Grand Prix Enjeux Méditerranéens (Grand Prize for Mediterranean Issues), the Prix Mémoire de la Méditerranée (Mediterranean Memory Prize), the Prix Art, Cultures et Sociétés (Art, Cultures and Societies Prize), the Prix du Court Méditerranéen (Audience Award), as well as the First Film and Distribution Prizes.

More than a festival, PriMed is a space for dialogue and reflection where the voices, images, and memories of the Mediterranean basin intersect. This 29th edition focuses on humanity, diversity, and the freedom to tell the story of reality.
