The island of Lesbos, birthplace of the Greek poet Sappho, welcomed lesbians from all over the world in the 1970s. When they created their own community in the village of Eressos, tensions with the locals grew. The director, a native of the island and herself a lesbian, traces 40 years of this history.
Tzeli Hadjidimitriou is a filmmaker, photographer, and writer. Her previous short films explore gender issues, including Sappho’s Granddaughters, Mr. Dimitris and Dimitroula, and Sappho Singing.
