From September 28 to 30, 2026, Marseille will host a professional training program dedicated to integrating Artificial Intelligence (IA) into journalistic practices and audiovisual creation. Organized by the CMCA (Centre Méditerranéen de la Communication Audiovisuelle), this event is designed for chief editors and television journalists from Mediterranean basin broadcasters who are members of the association
A Structured Three-Day Curriculum
- Day 1: Ethics and Deontology. The first day focuses on introducing generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) in the media. Regulatory and ethical guidelines will be discussed using France Télévisions’ AI charter as a concrete framework. Specific sessions will cover tools to combat disinformation (such as deepfake detection and image watermarking) as well as the role of AI in audiovisual archive management, in partnership with the INA.
- Day 2: Mastering Tools and Environmental Impact. In the morning, participants will practice using online directories and search assistants capable of processing large documents to generate summaries, timelines, and audio formats. The afternoon session will explore multimedia creation tools, including prompting for high-quality editorial images, generating coherent video sequences, and synthesizing voice-overs, translations, and background music. This will be accompanied by an overview of the ecological impact of generative AI and sustainable practices in the media.
- Day 3: Immersive Laboratory Exercise. The program concludes with a practical hands-on workshop. Participants will face the challenge of producing a short news report from scratch based on a historical reenactment, using a virtual photorealistic presenter and no physical filming. They will use AI tools to research facts, write scripts, generate visuals, produce synthetic voice-overs, and complete the editing. The day ends with a group screening and a debrief on editorial decisions, time savings, and the ethical issues of transparency in AI production.
